HVAC SEO (search engine optimization) puts a heating and cooling company in front of homeowners who search Google for furnace repair, air conditioning (AC) help or a new heat pump. It rests on four pieces. You need a separate page for each repair, replacement and maintenance job. Your Google Business Profile has to match those pages. Then you collect reviews that describe the work, and you make it easy to call you from every page when someone visits on a phone.
We build HVAC websites and run local SEO and ads for heating and cooling contractors across Ontario and Canada.
How does HVAC SEO work for heating and cooling companies?
Google picks which companies show up for a local search. Its Business Profile help page on local ranking says local results are "mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity." Relevance is how well your Business Profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the person searching. The same page explains this factor under the heading "Prominence," which it says means how well-known a business is. Prominence draws on links to your site and the reviews you collect.
For an HVAC company, relevance is where most of the ground is won. A homeowner with no heat types "furnace repair" and the name of their town. If your site has one general services page, Google has very little to match that search against.
Local Services Ads are a Google ad product, separate from the regular search results that SEO earns. Google's Local Services Ads help page for Canada calls HVAC an urgent category. The reason it gives is that people call for needs such as "a heater that is broken in freezing temperatures."
That urgency is why your hours, emergency pages and phone-friendly pages carry so much weight in HVAC SEO.
Furnaces heat a large share of Canadian homes. In Statistics Canada's Households and the Environment Survey, 46% of households had a forced-air furnace as their primary heating system in 2023. Heat pumps were the primary system in 8% of households. So furnace pages reach the largest number of homeowners, and heat pump pages are worth building too.

Which pages does an HVAC SEO plan need?
Build one page for each job a homeowner searches for. Each page should name the job in its title and heading. It should explain what happens on a service visit and show real photos from your own jobs. Put your phone number where a thumb can reach it.
| What the homeowner searches | What they need to see | The page that answers it |
|---|---|---|
| Furnace repair, late at night | Proof you fix furnaces, your hours and a number to tap | Emergency furnace repair page |
| AC not cooling | A sign you can come out soon | Air conditioning repair page |
| New furnace or heat pump | The options explained in plain words | Replacement and installation pages |
| Furnace tune-up or AC maintenance | What a visit covers and how to book it | Maintenance plan page |
| HVAC company plus a town name | Proof you work in their area | Service area page for that town |
The HVAC sites we build carry furnace repair, AC repair and emergency pages made to rank and bring in calls when the weather turns. Our replacement pages for furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners explain the options, so homeowners call ready to buy.

Service area pages help you reach past your own street. Rankings are strongest close to your address. Service area pages and a well-set-up profile extend your reach across the rest of your territory.
How should an HVAC company set up its Business Profile?
Your Google Business Profile is the second piece of HVAC SEO. It should tell the same story as your website. If your site has pages for furnace repair, heat pump installation and maintenance plans, list those same jobs as services on the profile.
Businesses in certain categories, like service businesses, might have the option to list services in the services section of a Business Profile. When adding services, you can choose from suggested options tailored to your business type. You can also add custom services. Keep each custom name to the job itself, such as "Furnace repair" or "Heat pump installation."
Above all, check your hours. Google's local ranking page notes that businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results. If you take emergency calls at night, make sure the profile says so. That way a homeowner with no heat at 10 p.m. can see you are open.
Our Google Business Profile guide for contractors covers the full setup, from categories to service areas.
How do you plan HVAC SEO around furnace season and cooling season?
Heating and cooling work swings with the weather, so your content calendar should swing with it. The catch is timing, because HVAC SEO takes months to build. In our experience, most contractors see movement in 2 to 3 months and stronger results in 3 to 6 months, depending on competition in their area. A furnace page published during the first cold snap is already late.
The panel below shows a seasonal rhythm that suits most HVAC websites.
Late summer
Publish furnace repair, furnace replacement and tune-up pages, so they have time to rank before the first cold nights.
Fall into winter
Keep no-heat emergency pages, hours and job photos current, and reply to every new review.
Spring
Publish or refresh your air conditioning tune-up and heat pump installation pages, and feature them on your homepage before the first hot spell.
Summer
Lead with air conditioning repair, and start drafting next season's heating pages.
We run tune-up campaigns for our HVAC clients before each season starts. Maintenance plans deserve their own page, too. They give homeowners a reason to call you outside an emergency. We also set up email and text reminders that turn one-time customers into maintenance plan members.

How do reviews help HVAC SEO?
Reviews feed the popularity side of local ranking. Google's local ranking page says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. Positive reviews and helpful replies can also help your business stand out.
The words inside a review matter to the next homeowner. A review that says the furnace was fixed on a cold Sunday night tells a reader far more than a star rating alone. Ask every customer for a review after the visit, and let them describe the job in their own words.
Our guide to getting more Google reviews as a contractor covers when to ask, what to send and the rules you have to follow.
Why do emergency HVAC searches need fast mobile pages?
A homeowner standing in a cold house may well be searching on a phone. Your page has to load fast and show a phone number they can tap without scrolling.
Make every phone number a real tap-to-call link, the way ours is: 866-898-5439. Then test your own site. Open it on your phone over mobile data, find your furnace repair page and see how quickly you can place a call.
Technical SEO and speed fixes are part of every HVAC SEO plan we run.
How do you know if your HVAC SEO is working?
Judge HVAC SEO by calls and booked jobs first, then rankings.
Google Search Console is Google's own tool for seeing how your site shows up in search. Its Performance report shows which searches (queries) bring traffic to your site. You can also see how often your site appeared (impressions), how often people clicked and your average position. If your heating pages are working, you would expect furnace queries to rise as the weather cools. Check your own Search Console data to see when your heating and cooling queries climb.
Our monthly reports cover rankings, calls and form leads in plain language.
Be wary of anyone who promises the top spot. Google's own advice on hiring an SEO is blunt: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google."
HVAC SEO questions we hear often
How does SEO work for HVAC companies?
For an HVAC company, SEO matches the company's pages and Business Profile to the jobs homeowners search for, such as furnace repair or heat pump installation. Google ranks local results mainly on relevance, distance and popularity.
How long does HVAC SEO take?
In our experience, most contractors see movement in 2 to 3 months and stronger results in 3 to 6 months, depending on competition in their area. So publish heating pages in late summer and cooling pages in spring. A page needs time to rank before the busy season starts.
What SEO services does an HVAC company need?
Start with Business Profile optimization and keyword research by service and area. Build both service pages and service area pages next. Then add on-page SEO and schema (code that labels your business details for search engines), directory citations (your listings on other sites) and a review routine. Technical and speed fixes plus monthly ranking and call reports round it out.
How do HVAC companies get more service calls from Google?
Give each job its own page and list the same jobs as services on your Business Profile. Keep your hours accurate, especially for emergency calls. Ask every customer for a review, and make your phone number a tap-to-call link on every page.
Should an HVAC company use Local Services Ads as well as SEO?
Local Services Ads can work alongside SEO. Local Services Ads are a separate Google ad product, and HVAC is one of the categories offered in Canada. They do not replace your website or Business Profile.

Pick the one job that brings in the most work. Check whether it has its own page, a matching service on your profile and a tap-to-call number.
